November 30th 2004

Today I met Mike French at McGehee at 6:00 a.m.  He took me to one of his farms east of town for a field hunt.  His nephew and some friends had killed about 20 ducks here yesterday.

I took my 4-wheelers and I am glad that I did.  We rode them to our hunting spot which was about one half mile from where we parked.  I don't think the walk would have been fun this morning.  It was raining off and on all day, mostly on I think.

We got our decoys out and got ourselves hidden in the tall grass next to the water.  We had water on both sides and we were sitting on a levee in between.  The bad weather, thunder and lightening must have run yesterday's ducks off, because there were not many duck flying.

I shot one Mallard drake and Mike shot one, also.  Both of them had bright colored legs, indicating to us that they were new ducks.  We picked up the decoys about 8:30 because we just were not seeing any ducks and we had punished ourselves enough.  We drove back to McGehee for coffee and sausage, egg, biscuits.

I spent the rest of the morning with Mike looking for ducks to hunt tomorrow.  No pictures today.

More later.
