November 30th 2002

I was way down the draw list today and I chose hole 7. I hunted with the same 5 people again today. We had barely gotten our decoys out on the water when ducks started dropping into our hole. It was still too dark to shoot when three Mallards landed in the far northwest part of our hole. It was about 10 minutes before shooting time. They did not stay long because they could hear us talking, I'm sure.

Right at shooting time, a Mallard drake and hen fell in unannounced. Our group was alert and did not let either of them get away. About 15 minutes later a repeat occurred and we had 4 Mallards on the lanyard. We then had a long wait for the next and last duck of the morning. In the meantime, Mark warmed up some of him Mother's famous potato soup. While it was warming, we munched on left-overs from last night's meal, such as fried duck, quail, and wild turkey. After refreshments, the last duck of the morning quacked loudly. We answered her call and she circled cautiously until Noel shot her on the fringe of our hole. That ended our morning with 5 Mallards.

More later,

Royce
