I was listed number nine on today's draw, but because of a large number of no-shows by our members, I actually got the number 2 pick today. I chose hole 6 and we took 2 boats to the hole carrying 5 guest and myself. We used my old boat plus a new boat and motor belonging to Mark Billings. Mark has graciously loaned his boat to me this year to use during the whole season. Hunting with Mark and me was his daughter, Emily, David Breedlove, Wes Wright, and Noel Ferguson.
Had a really good hunt. Ducks were flying on a regular basis and we called to them loud and long. It paid off for us with a total of 14 Mallards for the day. The dog work was good. David's dog, Cache, made several outstanding retrieves. He went a long way and used his scenting ability to find some crippled ducks who were trying to hide from us. My new 11 month old dog, C. J., is continuing to improve on a daily basis. She is becoming more aggressive and bounding across the hole to retrieve ducks much faster after just one week of hunting. I have put her on a dog-board by a tree with me and she can see everything much better.
Mark, Emily, and David made a shopping trip to Mack's after the morning hunt while Wes, Noel, and I stayed at the motel to watch the Arkansas Razorbacks win an exciting game over the LSU Tigers on a last second pass by the score of 21-20.
More later,
