I hunted with the same people again this morning, Mark, Emily,
David, and Wes. We thought we made the correct choice when I chose
hole 5 again this morning. But hole 5 was not as good to us today
as yesterday.
We got set up early this morning. By 6:05 a.m. we were ready to
go. Shooting time is approximately 6:20 a.m. At just about
shooting time four Mallards appeared and we started working them.
One Mallard left the group during several circles around the hole.
We finally landed three of them. Mark, Emily, and I shot at a drake
and hen that went straight out from us in the blind and we got both
of them. A drake went left in front of David and Wes. They knocked
it down and it fell just outside of the hole. David sent his dog,
Cache, to retrieve the drake. Wes saw Cache pick up the drake and
then it got loose. They were never able to find it.
One Mallard drake fluttered around in the hole and we let it fly off
trying to land about five other Mallards. We got too greedy and
came up empty-handed on that group.
Later in the morning we started working five Mallards. Finally,
three worked into the hole and picked up to leave. Remembering the
previous group, I threw down the screen of the blind and told Mark
and Emily to shoot them. They got a drake and hen and that finished
our hunt for the day.
More later.
