I turned off my alarm clock at 3:30 a.m. this morning thinking, I need to go to bed earlier tonight. It seems that
you never get enough sleep when you are duck hunting. There is always something to do. It was raining outside
and had turned colder last night. If I had not had guests to hunt with I might have stayed in bed.
But I'm glad I had guests, David Breedlove, Wes Wright, and Jay "Pipe" Lawrence arrived last night in time for
fried duck and fried potatoes. I had the first draw today. Wayne Owen and I were the only members here today. I
chose hole 5 and Wayne chose hole 6.
We got setup after a boat ride in the rain to hole 5, we got set up in a hurry and did not have to wait long for some
action. The ducks were flying in the rain and responded to our Banfield's Best calls. Wes and I were set up on the
north end of the hole and since the wind was out of the north, the ducks were landing on our end. Every dog has
their day I suppose.
We shot our quota of hens early because of the low light. When it got a little brighter, it was easier to distinguish
the greenheads. We wound up with 14 ducks, 8 greenheads, 4 Mallard hens, a Gadwall drake and we think, a
hybrid that had a green head, black bill, yellow feet, and green instead of dark blue on the trailing edge of the
wing. You can look at the picture and guess what it is.
More later.
