Today I had the number 7 pick on the sheet. Only two of the members showed up to hunt so I had the second pick. Wayne Owen chose hole 7 and posted a kill of 16 ducks.
I chose hole 13 and hunted with Bobby Lowe, Royce Sweatman, and Fielding Watts. Fielding is a friend of Ben
Brown who has arranged for Rusty Faulk Productions to video our hunts on the 27th and 28th. Fielding had been
hunting in Stuttgart and Ben asked if he could hunt with me today. He is a nice guy and a good shot. Bobby and
Royce are both from Harrison, longtime friends of mine. We all go to church together.
It was clear when we left the motel and did the draw at our club. By the time we got to the hole to hunt low clouds
had moved in. It was slow early and we did not see many ducks flying. Shades of the last two days. Then things
began to happen. Two Mallard hens landed in the hole, but I let them go. I immediately wished that we had shot
them. I got to remembering that we had zero ducks the last two days. Then two Shoveler hens landed. We let
them go because we did not want them. They are not a very good eating duck. We knocked down two wood ducks
and could only find one of them. Then the Mallards started flying and we wound up with ten Mallards, four drakes
and six hens. During that time we also killed a Gadwall hen and a Greenwing Teal hen. The total count was 13 for
the day and we all enjoyed the hunt.
Ben Brown and the Rusty Faulk Productions camera-man will arrive tonight. They will video two hunts. I hope we
have ducks and have two good hunts to capture on video.
More later.
