November 25th 2002

I had the same group to hunt with today. With the 2nd draw today I picked hole 7 which had been very productive the previous two days. Wayne Owen had the 1st draw and took hole 5 which I coveted. As I expected Wayne's group killed 15 ducks and my group wound up with 8 ducks, 4 greenheads and 4 Mallard hens, just like yesterday.

Today a drake cupped to the sound of David and Wes and Noel shot him when at least one foot was out of the water leaving the hole. Next came 3 Mallards into the hole. We killed one hen and one drake giving us a total of three. At this point, I saw 6 Mallards up pretty high traveling from north to south towards us. I gave them my best shot with a long, loud, hail call. To my surprise, they responded immediately by cupping their wings and starting to circle our hole. After about two circles, one hen dropped in, jumped up, moved over about ten feet, and still uncomfortable, picked up and left the hole. We didn't shoot at her and shortly we were rewarded by the other five parachuting in through the trees and my boys shot them all, finishing our day with 8 Mallards. And was I proud of myself, calling those ducks in like a pro, (which I definitely am not). You bet I was!!!

More later.
