Today was the opening day for the 2002-2003 duck season. I had David Breedlove, Wes Wright, Tyler Cox, and Doug Cox hunting with me. I had the next to the last draw, 13 out of 14. Larry Otwell had the 2nd draw and only had his son hunting with him, so he had pity on me and invited me and my group to join him.
Larry picked hole 5 which is a favorite on our place. We had a good opening day. We finished the day with 19
ducks, 14 Mallards, 2 Gadwalls, and 3 Teal. I did not get to shoot much because I was looking after a new dog.
She is an 11 month old female yellow lab named C. J. That stands for her registered name, Sportsmans Cajun
Joy. Some of my friends suggested Calamity Jane might more appropriate.
My brother-in-law, David Breedlove was breaking in a 2 year old black male lab, Cache, and I must say he really
did a much better job retrieving than C. J.
More later.
