John Gibson from Monticello invited me to hunt with him today in the Cut Off Creek Wildlife Management Area, which is south of Dermott, Arkansas. I got my van stuck in the mud very close to the point of entry for us, so I just left it to deal with when we got through hunting. That happened sooner than I expected. When we got into the woods, we discovered that someone was already in the hole that John had planned on hunting and it is first come, first served in the WMA. We didn't see any ducks flying so we went to plan B.
Plan B was to pull the van out of the mud and proceed to one of John's farms, put out decoys and wait for the ducks we scared off to return. Everything but the ducks returning worked, so we were done for the morning. No ducks and no pictures.
I had lunch with Mike French and we rode around looking for ducks in the afternoon. We saw a ton of Pintails in the area, but very few Mallards. We tried one of Mike's places in the afternoon with the same results as the morning hunt.
More later,
