The same three groups from yesterday hunted again today. I chose hole 6, Wayne Owen chose hole 2, and Chuck Sponer chose hole 5. The three groups killed three ducks. Wayne had two, I had one, and Chuck posted a zero.
It was overcast today and daylight came later this morning. About 6:45 a.m. a group of about ten Mallards appeared and worked our hole. As happens many times, I kept losing part of the ducks. They just left for other parts. We wound up with two who kept circling and finally dipped down low enough for us to shoot. The drake fell in the center of the hole and the hen flew out with her heart shot out. We thought she fell outside the hole, but neither C. J. or Cache could find her. David took Cache back out later and still did not find the hen.
We stayed until noon hoping that other ducks would respond to our calls. We saw enough ducks that if only a small part of them would have worked we could have had a limit easily. But, that didn't happen. We had a good time and we know why it is called hunting.
More later,
Royce
