January 11th 2003

Today, I had a full compliment of guests; David Breedlove, Wes Wright, Noel Ferguson, Mark Billings and his 7th grade daughter, Emily. There were only three groups hunting. I took hole 5, Wayne Owen chose hole 3, and Chuck Sponer chose hole 7, I think. None of the other two groups fired a shot.

We saw several ducks today. We had several groups of ducks to work our hole today, but only two of them bit the dust. This pair just worked perfectly. They circled about twice and came down about 10 feet off of the water before they decided to go around again. But, it was too late. My crew had already opened up on them. The drake fell first and then the hen.

We worked a really big bunch, about 30 in number I would guess. It started out with six ducks and ducks kept joining the group until they were circling both directions in several different groups. A hen from the original group of six landed, picked up and landed again in another location. I kept calling and she got nervous and flew out of the hole. That alerted the rest of the group and I could not entice them to land.

We let another pair fly off unscathed, trying to put them on the water. It was fun just seeing ducks fly again and work to the sound of our calls. We only wound up with two ducks for the day, but maybe tomorrow will be the day.

More later,

Royce
