I was the only person on the place hunting today. So C. J. and I loaded up and went back to hole 9. About 6:45 a.m. I got the decoys put out and the robo ducks in place and was spreading the net over the boat behind the blind when I heard a noise, PLOPP! It sounded like a big limb had fallen in the water. It was just outside the hole and I picked up the spotlight in the boat and turned it on the area where the noise came from. A Mallard hen took flight when I put the light on her. She had slipped in without me seeing her.
I didn't see any ducks to call until about 9:00 a.m. when the sun popped out and stayed out for a little while. Three Mallards flew over the hole and started circling, responding to my calls. After about two circles, they joined another group and headed north.
That was the extent of my hunt today. No ducks and one picture of C. J. She got bored and this is what she looked like most of the morning.
More later,
Royce
